Shane Lui – EL Capitan
Shane Lui is the Managing Director and driving force behind Strait Support.
Born and raised on Darnley Island in the Torres Strait, Shane has always been dedicated to the civil construction industry.
With over 15 years of experience in the industry, Shane is a certified civil construction plant operator with expertise in surface extraction operations, fencing, and concreting. He has also completed Diplomas in Front Line Management and Workplace Health and Safety, demonstrating his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Shane’s career began as a plant operator in Brisbane, where his ambition led him to start his own earthmoving business. The business operated successfully for ten years throughout Brisbane and Far North Queensland. After settling in Cairns with his young family, Shane shifted his focus to mining and larger civil construction projects.
Combining his extensive experience in the civil construction industry with his dedication to improving outcomes for the Indigenous workforce and communities, Shane quickly progressed through the ranks from machine operator to project manager and site supervisor. His management skills were put to the test when he oversaw the delivery of several of Queensland’s largest mining projects at the MMG Lawn Hill site.
Shane is a highly skilled risk manager with a proven track record of developing and implementing effective safety procedures and protocols that ensure compliance. He is dedicated to providing upskilling and training opportunities for employees, promoting continuous organisational improvement and fostering individual development.
Strait Support is the culmination of Shane’s two professional goals in life: delivering high-quality construction projects and providing improved outcomes for the Indigenous workforce and communities. As a proud Torres Strait Islander, Shane is passionate about his culture and puts that passion to work by owning and operating a business employing Torres Strait Islanders.
Through his hard work and dedication, Shane has become a respected leader in the construction industry, committed to making a positive impact in the communities he serves.
