The Erub freezer is the first infrastructure to be upgraded as part of the Torres Strait Regional Authority’s (TSRA) Wapil initiative.
It is now fully staffed and structurally sound with a new roof and storeroom. On 25 August 2020 it was officially re-opened under its new trading name Darnley Deep Seafood.
The TSRA Chairperson, Mr Napau Pedro Stephen AM congratulated the building team, Strait Support on achieving 73 per cent Indigenous participation during construction.
While commercial fishers are pleased to have a point of seafood processing and trade on the island, local entrepreneurs are excited about the associated opportunities created.
